Rockville Wine & Co. Corporate Office Upgrade
Concept Design

Rockville Wine and Co, family owned and run distributors of organic fine wines, were looking to upgrade their premises and refresh the company brand.

It was also important for them to provide a professional presence for clients in the CBD, and a more accessible and collaborative work environment for staff.

With a very strong commitment to selling certified organic products, it was naturally important to Rockville Wine and Co. the design was approached from an environmentally friendly perspective.

Our response to this was to treat the premises, an old warehouse located on the harbour, with inventiveness - retaining and reclaiming as much of the existing warehouse shell as possible, and utilising its inherent character to create a sense of rustic charm within the space. While maintaining the exposed brick walls, steel beams and bare concrete floor, we also incorporated new eco-friendly and renewable elements where possible, such as recycled timber and natural stone.

Being located on the harbour, it was essential the design used the water views to its best advantage, and large glazing panels were integrated into the building facade to effectively bring the outside in. To maximise views throughout the entire space, a ‘box like’ structure has been inserted into the warehouse space to form the centre of mezzanine levels, housing three offices and workstations. These spaces are interconnected via a bridging walkway, to maximise views and utilise the available sense of space within the warehouse shell.

The board room, an essential part of the design located downstairs, is partitioned on 3 sides by glazing panels to maximise harbour views. Adjacent, featuring on the back wall, is a large scale image of a colourful vineyard landscape, invoking a sense of country side and nature. An office for the sales and marketing team is also located downstairs and an internal meeting space is provided within for team meetings and discussions.

The retail zone, catering primarily for visiting customers, wine tasting evenings and seasonal campaigns, consists of a large bar, seating and display space. To create an atmosphere of rusticity within the retail zone, elements reminiscent of a country wine cellar have been incorporated into the design, such as carved sandstone and timber wine barrels. Clever use of lighting integrated both into the joinery and ceiling enhances the warm, subdued atmosphere, and sisal ropes and netting are scalloped above.

From every angle throughout the premises, the harbour view is enjoyed. The space is open and encourages a collaborative work culture; and the rustic yet sophisticated reception area and bar provide the perfect setting to promote the new face of Rockville Wine Co.
